There is a small road in Capri which goes along the rock and up to the sea and the small beaches of Marina Piccola. A road which has its origin on the west of Augustus Gardens, given to the isle by the owner of the German steel-mills, Friedrich Alfred Krupp. Grateful to the isle and its inhabitants for making him recover from asthma and depression, he made this “impossible” small stone road build on a cliff 100 metres high. Built by engineer Emilio Mayer, Via Krupp was inaugurated in 1902. A kilometre of bends, adorned with agaves, myrtle, juniper and wild flowers, remained closed for 32 years and reopened only this year, on June 28th 2008.

The reopening of the historical road has marked the beginning of a series of events, a dense calendar which will continue up to April 2009, dedicated to “Krupp and  the German culture in Capri”.

From August  1st to October 31st “Steel Peace: from cannons to art” will take place, location of the events will be via Krupp itself, with a series of exhibitions of works of art.

From October to December the film review “The Myth of Capri in the German Cinema. 1900-2008”, cured by the association “La Conchiglia” in cooperation with the Goethe Institut of Naples is in programme. From December 27th until the closing ceremony, which will take place on April 30th, interesting exhibitions and conferences will take place.
